Rise n Shine family

Our Story

Rise ‘N Shine Farm has grown into one of the largest Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farms in Georgia supplying a bounty of certified organic produce to Metro Atlanta and Northwest Georgia. The farm has traveled a long and windy road to get to where it is today.

It started as a crazy dream Mitch had while apprenticing on Broadwing Farm in Hot Springs, NC in 2004. The dream would not leave him alone, so later that Fall Mitch started Rise ‘N Shine Farm on a piece of leased ground in Ranger, GA. With the help of some friends and his future wife, Elisabeth, Mitch built a barn out of scraps to work and live out of. The barn was comically dubbed the Redneck Yurt. Mitch and his friends tended a 2-acre garden and learned a lot in the 2005 season.

After marrying in November of 2005, Mitch and Elisabeth left the Redneck Yurt behind to lease land in McLemore Cove near Chickamauga, GA. There Rise ‘N Shine grew to a 5-acre garden.

A couple of years later, the Lawsons returned Rise ‘N Shine Farm to the fertile Oostanaula River Valley where they currently farm in Curryville. Rise ‘N Shine continued to grow from 5 acres to 10 to 20 to its current size of almost 30 acres of cultivated ground in fields along the Oostanaula River. With the help of almost 2 acres of high tunnel hoop houses, Rise ‘N Shine is able to supply a bounty of more than 40 types of organic produce year ’round.
